Dear patrons,
We’ve noticed the recent qualms about the $50 per-band-member fee we’re asking for for Buzzfest 2006. First of all we would like to invite you to read through our official Buzzfest info page at [www.radioinsectrecords.com/buzzfest/] and see what’s included with this fee. Once you’re done reading through the content we would like to point out the following arguments, in addition to the Buzzfest info, on how we justify asking for such an amount.
Buzzfest is first and foremost an initiative made by Radio Insect Records (RiR) to help support and promote Asian talents by organizing the best of them from across North America to perform at one show. RiR believes that Asian talents are poorly represented in the current North American Music Market (NAMM), the world’s largest music market. RiR believes that by collecting a respected group of Asian talents performing in one show as a showcase could influence and manage to ’open some eyes’ from various music industry outfits in attendance.
The biggest argument we would like to make in defence of asking this amount is that we’ve managed to keep entrance ticket prices to an absolute minimum ($10) for a show that’s held at a very prestigious live facility (The Opera House) to showcase incredible ’Asian’ talents that RiR scoped across North America and shown to you conveniently in Toronto. On the other hand, we can forfeit the $50 per-band-member fee but will end up hiking the entrance fee to an amount close to $25, making it your average Opera House admission rate, and lose the allure of affordability. Seriously folks how often do you see a $10 ($12 at the door) entrance fee for an Opera House show ?!. To top it all off Buzzfest ’06 WILL BE an amazing show considering its line-up of amazing never-before-heard-or-seen Asian talents who’ve signed up from across Canada and the US.
We’ve also had the experience that numerous bands we’ve hosted would rather pay and get a chance to play at a first-class venue with the prospect of a healthy attendance. So to put this idea to work meant that we needed to post a really low entrance fee rate in exchange of a higher attendance rate.
Don’t be mistaken that any talent who could pay the $50 per-band-member fee aren’t automatically in. We first go through a screening process by checking their demo songs, either online or submitted, then and only then we either invite them to confirm their attendance or give them the difficult answer of rejection.
Also at Buzzfest, RiR will be inviting music industry dignitaries from Toronto who will get to hear Buzzfest bands, perhaps for the first time ever, and if well liked could open doors and insurmountable opportunities for the bands.
RiR hopes to continue the Buzzfest legacy. Without your continued support for our Asian talents it would be nearly impossible to keep it going. Buzzfest will celebrate its third anniversary with Buzzfest 2006, help RiR continue to support and promote local Asian talents and help to create the first Asian talent to successfully penetrate the NAMM.
sincerely,
Phil Mark
