| | Serge and Caroline - The Definitive Interview |
Did you grow-up in a household where music was plentiful ?
We both grew up in households where older siblings fed us with a fresh supply of music on a continual basis.
How long have you been making music together ?
We have been making music together for the last six years.
As individuals, were either one of you pursuing music prior to your partnership ?
Serge played bass in other bands however it was through the Serge and Caroline partnership that we both emerged as singer/songwriters.
Who are your influences ?
Looking through the pictures we took on tour while a garage sale copy of Stevie Wonder's "Hotter Than July" plays the room, it all leaves its' marks someplace.
How would you describe your music ?
Soft, hard, clean, and dirty. Another hybrid in the chain of rock'n'roll.
When you compose your music, how does it start as ? ... Does it start with a beat ?, a melody ?, an accidental chord progression ?, what is it ?
The door upon which Inspiration knocks is always opened.
What is your background in music ? ... did you have any formal training ? or are you self-taught ?
We are both self taught, and we are trying to learn more all the time through thoughtful listening.
Recording and producing your independent cd release "Nation of Two" all by yourselves is certainly a significant accomplishment, How did you manage to distribute the cds afterwards without the luxury of a store-front to carry them ?
We keep hitting the road to make sure we get it to the people one city at a time. Due to the nature of our distribution affiliations we are, at this time, in no position to discuss this any further on the internet.
As musicians, what are your future plans at this point ?
To save up for a new pack of strings, and to record an album that will change the way some people listen to music.
Are there anything else you want to add ?
To all my fellow songwriters, never give up on the opportunity that God has given us. Believe in yourself and everything will fall in your favor. And never, never sell your songs, because you work hard for it.
Thank you very much Serge and Caroline for taking the time to do this interview. |
